    Other Activities

    Describe the other activities, such as parent resource centers, the school will conduct to encourage and support parents in more fully participating in the education of their children [Section 1118 (e)(4)].
    Response: Parent Liaison will coordinate parent volunteer activities and hours. Classroom teachers encourage parents to volunteer in the classrooms and on all field trips and community experiences. Academy for Positive Learning will foster an environment conducive to strong teacher/family relationships. Teachers and families get to know each other in greater depth through the intake interview process, formal and informal ongoing communication, and the school's commitment to family participation. There is often more than one sibling in a program. Parents become much more involved in classrooms. Much more bonding occurs between teachers and parents.

    Parents who wish to have their child enrolled must sign a contract with the school declaring willingness to participate and be involved in classroom and school activities. Each family will be encouraged to commit to at least 40 volunteer hours annually.

    To involve parents/guardians and the community in the governance of the school everyone will be encouraged to be involved on many levels. At least one parent will be encouraged to sit on the Board of Directors. Parents will be encouraged and expected to volunteer time at the school, attend Board meetings, participate in Presentations of Learning and to assist in establishing partnerships in the community. Parental communication will be the cornerstone of the partnership the school intends to establish with each parent. From the Governing Board to the Principal to administrative staff and instructional staff, all those employees involved in the education of the children will be communicating with parents through face-to-face meetings, phone calls, newsletters, report cards, Presentations of Learning, electronic communications, board meetings, and other means. Students and Families will also be given a presentation by SunTrust to encourage savings plans for their children. Parent Volunteers will coordinate the savings program by collecting students monies monthly for deposit into their accounts. Homeroom parents will be communicating with the other parents to participate in the parent teacher student organization group on our monthly meeting.

    • Timely information about the Title I programs [Section 1118(c)(4)(A)];
    • Description and explanation of the curriculum at the school, the forms of academic assessment used to measure student progress, and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet [Section 1118(c)(4)(B)];
    • If requested by parents, opportunities for regular meetings to formulate suggestions and to participate, as appropriate, in decisions relating to the education of their children[Section 1118(c)(4)(C)]; and

    Response: All written communication is provided in different languages. We have a comprehensive website that is updated regularly. All teachers provide a monthly informative newsletter which details classroom lessons and activities, volunteer opportunities, school-wide events, standards and objectives to be covered each month as well as ways to help their child(ren) be successful in school. Teachers and parents communicate daily through the use of student's agenda, e-mail and through EngradePro and a Nikki Communication folder which is brought home daily. All parents have access to updated student academic information through www.engradepro.com which is updated at a minimum weekly by teachers. During the Annual Meeting, we discussed the Title I School Wide Plan, reviewed the Family Involvement Policy/Plan that was approved the previous school year, revise it with parents input for the up coming school year; went over the School-Parent Compact and ask for input, tutorial services offered, and Parent Right to Know.

    We informed the parents of our Title I status, provided brochures, and explained the Parent's Right to Know through letters in different languages as well as through electronic e-mails.

    We have a Parent Leadership Council which meets at least twice per year. All ELL parents are invited.

    Our Curriculum at A4PL is what the Florida State requires. All benchmarks from Cpalms are used to develop effective, engaging lesson plans. To supplement lesson plans we included Lindamood Bell learning processes. We have also invested 22K in the Scholastic Leveled Bookroom Grades K-6.

    In our School Improvement Plan, we have set academic goals to include: by June 2015, at least 90% of all students will continue to be proficient in reading using the Lindamood Bell system to supplement the standard reading curriculum. Those students who are already reading at or above grade level will continue to increase reading proficiency levels. All students at all levels will have attained rich experiences with good literature; wide range of literature based activities that focus on vocabulary comprehension, writing, study skills and strategies. Students will experience literature through experiential activities in the community as well as in the classroom. All students will also have had the opportunity to practice essential reading and writing skills. 80% of all students will have developed their language and literacy through listening, speaking, reading and writing experiences. We will use technology, multimedia software and hardware to record and play back student's voices. Students will listen to stories and replay them at their own pace, complete picture or work exercises to check comprehension or write and respond to literature.

    Regain our A+ status by June 2015, the percent of accountability students at grade 3-8 scoring level 3 or higher on FSA Reading M, as reported by the FDOE will be at least 80%. By June 2015, 85% or higher of students in all subgroups will meet math expectations by applying the strategies of Kagan method, Hands on Equation, STEM and the standard math curriculum. At least 75% of students will make a year's worth of progress in math.

    By June 2015 all students will increase proficiency in writing by 1% as measured by the state percentile scores.

    Parents are encouraged and given opportunity to provide suggestions to update School Improvement plan, Family Involvement Policy, and Parent-School Compact through Annual beginning of year and end of year meetings.

The monthly newsletter is translated by a parent as part of his/her volunteer hours or by the Parent Liaison. Annual parent surveys are used to collect information and suggestions for parents. Surveys are distributed in English and Spanish. The Multicultural Department will provide testing and translation for any students who are identified as ELL and need ESE services.

    9/21/2015 2:12:24 PM9/21/2015 2:16:00 PMThe Agenda for the Annual meeting was uploaded. However, we need to have the Agenda, Sign In Sheets, and Minutes from the meeting where parents provided input into the development of the Parent-School Compact. Please combine all items into one PDF document to be uploaded. Upload #1 had a Compact that had parent input that was returned to the school. If you have a few of these and can summarize the response (ex: 5 Compacts were returned with comments that did not require revisions to the Compact), this would be sufficient for this section.
